So it's been a fantastic kind of weekend. I still have a bit of grownup work to do before 8 AM tomorrow, but I'm sure the work fairies will appear later today.
I came to the upstate yesterday for the Run for Hope 5k in Greenville. They had the whole course lined with luminaries and it started at 8 PM so it was nice and dark, and a very relaxing time. I finished the race pretty late perhaps because I got so distracted looking around at the scenery. It looped through Cleveland Park in Greenville, and I can't figure out why I've never been there before. Been to downtown tons of times, but never there & it's right beside it all pretty much. Anyway, it was a pretty course and there were lots of families. The best thing about this run was all the little kids who seemed to be attempting their first 5k. Within a tenth of the first mile a couple started crying immediately because they realized people were going to be passing them. You know that whole embarrassment/disappointment in your little legs thing that happens to kids right?? And then all the mom's and dad's, were giving them pep talks. Out a good ways, probably around 2.5 miles or so, I came up on this little boy whose gait was rather floppy. He was so tired, and his dad kept saying stuff like, "OK, let your heels strike first, one after the other." It was great. I'm in no rush for a kid AT ALL, but it would be fun to borrow someone else's kid and try to get them thru a 5k.
In the midst of the crying kids at the start my sister, who was going to set the pace, was really pushing me, so I told her to go ahead of me please, and she did. She finished 2 minutes or so in front. I was proud of her and pretty happy that it was just me and my feet out there having a good time with the candles and this old guy who I made it my mission to beat, and I did. Here's a link to some pics from the night if you're interested...no pressure! www.jasonhinton.com/runforhope

There's plenty of pics of the fam in there too and LOTS of my sis as the photographer would be her fiance. But you can find me and Rob interspersed here and there.
