Snow Day Shenanigans!

Since being trapped at home for what's now four days, I've become a painter by trade.

Monday, we painted the den.
Monday night, Will tried to polyurethane the back door. Bad idea.
Tuesday, I painted the back door. Better idea. :)
Wednesday, I painted the hallway and stairs. No more crazy yellow.
Thursday, I need to put another coat on the walls in the hall but am out of paint. Might have to venture to the Depot for another gallon.

Let's back up. Here's what we've been up to in house renovations. First, I've learned that working on the house never really stops. I keep thinking, "Oh, when we finish this project, we'll be done." No. There's always another, and it's been that way for four years.

So, back in September (I think), Will decided it was time to rip up the carpet in the den.

Exhibit A:

We lived on a concrete floor for a while.

Then in November, Will put hardwoods down, and we lived on those before they were sanded and finished for a month or two.

Then there was New Year's Eve. It was not filled with parties and sequins. Instead it was filled with sawdust and polyurethane. Yes, you read that correctly. All day, I sanded (yes, me!) the floor in the den and then we put down around 5 coats of polyurethane. We were sort of high for days.

The floor isn't this shiny anymore.

While I did that, Will ripped carpet off the stairs and out of the hallway upstairs and laid down hardwoods. He worked all the way until midnight. Happy New Year!

Thankfully my sis and her husband and their friends came over and blew up some seriously loud fireworks in my backyard though, so we still celebrated (while barely functioning since we were sort of high from inhaling polyurethane fumes all day).

Now, we are waiting to get our couch back from the upholsterer. It will have this fabric on it.

It's okay if you just cringed and thought, "Oh, god!" This picture makes me cringe too. In real life, the colors are more muted, so it's not nearly as tacky as this looks. I've also got my eye on this blue love seat.

Will is not a fan because it's microfiber, and apparently there is an unspoken rule about how low-quality microfiber is. One of his family's friends gave us great advice over the holidays--buy the love seat, it'll look like crap in two years, and get it recovered then. Perhaps if she saw they picture of the fabric we picked out for the couch, she might rethink that advice. But really, I promise, the fabric is NOT that crazy in real life. I've convinced Will of this sage advice (almost), so maybe we'll have that blue love seat soon.
